A diet for a sixty plus woman has to be low in carbohydrates and fats. They cannot be fed a rich diet as it will upset the smooth functioning of their digestive system. Their diets should be high in calcium and vitamin D to compensate for their weakening bones. Also, you should see to it that she consumes sufficient water to regulate bowel movement and felicitate easy digestion. Food given to them should not be too hard and yet should be presented in an assortment of colour, flavour, and texture.
We should accompany our grandparents during their meal times as it helps in alleviating their sense of aloofness from us. Little food parties can also be held in their honour to make them feel like they are remembered. It is also important that we do not repeat same dishes repeatedly as it might then decrease their appetite. To add to the suitable diet, it is also important that we encourage them to go for walks so that they do not suffer from bouts of osteoarthritis and the sunshine will provide a natural source of vitamin D.
Last, but by no means least, we should try our best to keep them happy because the best way to keep old people healthy is to keep them happy. And it will surprise you how easy the task is.
